What is GST? the Goods and Services Tax(GST) comes into effect in India from the past July 1st, 2017. That means 4 months before the GST implemented in India. But peoples have not good awareness about this GST Rate. Today, lots of non-registered Hotels, Restaurants etc.. are collected GST from customers. GST is applicable to every product and service in India. But this GST has some legal procedures also. A dealer registered under composition scheme is not allowed to collect tax from the customer. But most of them collected GST without registering with this. Any shop or business firm it registered with GST, it must have a valid GST number(GSTIN) And a citizen can also verify whether the GSTIN is a valid registration in Kerala.

Simply we can say that GST number is, all of the businesses will be assigned unique Goods and Services Tax Identification Number is called GSTIN or GST number. Verification of GSTIN can be done on the GST Portal powered by central Government. GSTIN divided into 5 sections. First one denotes the State code, the Second portion denoted the PAN number, the third portion denoted an entity number of the same PAN holder in a State, the Fourth portion denoted an Alphabet character and the last portion is the checksum digit. GST was introduced in the Constitution (One Hundred and First Amendment) Act 2017, following the passage of Constitution 122nd Amendment Act Bill. The GST is governed by a GST Council and its Chairman is the Finance Minister of India.

Under GST, goods and services are taxed at the following rates, 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. There is a special rate of 0.25% on rough precious and semi-precious stones and 3% on gold. In addition, a cess of 22% or other rates on top of 28% GST applies luxury items.
