How to Secure Google Account on Android devices: The search engine giant Google has provided a lot of services for free. But to use them, we need a Google account. That means with a Google account, we can access any Google services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc. Most of people store information like personal information, business-related, etc on Google. So providing security is more important. Google has an inbuilt feature that provides security for our Google account. But most of the people are unaware of it. How to Secure Google Account

Google provides a feature called Two-step authentication, which is a great feature that provides an extra layer of security to Google account to make it harder for people to hack into your account. Instead of just a password, every time you log into your account you’ll be sent a code to your phone that is needed to unlock your account. It is a very secure way to protect your Google account from hackers.

Enable Two-step authentication in Google Account

With this enabled, a code will be sent to your phone through text, or Google will call your phone and tell you the code. You can enter this code into the sign-in prompt in order to sign in. These are the steps that enable Two-step authentication :

  1. Go to Google’s My Account page
  2. Click Sign-in & security
  3. Scroll down and click 2-step verification
  4. Click Get Started
  5. Enter your Google account password
  6. Then Click on Sign in button
  7. Enter your Phone number
  8. Now you can select a code option. You can select either text message to receive a code in text form or you can click Phone call to receive an audio recording of the code
  9. Then click Next. Now Google will send a code to you according to your selected option
  10. Then type the code
  11. Click next
  12. Click turn on at the top of the page. Now the 2-step verification of your Google account will be enabled.

Google Prompt

To avoid common phishing techniques associated with text message codes, Google provides a strong secure method called Google Prompt. This is another method for enabling two-step verification for your Google account. These are the steps that enable Google prompt.

  1. Go to My Account page
  2. Click Sign in & Security
  3. Scroll down and click 2-step verification
  4. Click get started
  5. Enter your Google account password
  6. Click sign in
  7. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Choose another option
  8. Then select Google prompt
  9. Then make sure that the device that you want to use is listed
  10. Tap yes on the prompt on your phone
  11. Then choose a backup option, this will allow you to access your Google account even if Google Prompt is not available.
  12. Finally, select turn on to activate two-step verification.

Now, whenever you or somebody else tries to log into your account you will have to approve the login request on your phone.

GOOGLE’S SECURITY CHECKUP

Google has an inbuilt feature which allows you to check your account’s security settings. For this do the following:

  1. Go to Google’s My Account page
  2. Click Sign-in & security
  3. Then, click on Security Checkup

Once you click on this option, which lets you change your recovery phone number and email address, along with your security questions.
